Wikitext experiment
This is an experiment on exported Mediawiki text.
First compose your document in open office and save in open office format. Once saved you can export as Mediawiki text. I've done that and now I'm going to paste directly into the Editing box.
Experiment 1: Pasted with nothing additional
Otago Polytechnic is a xxxx-based tertiary institution in Dunedin, near the bottom of the South Island in New Zealand. Its executive and EDC unit are encouraging stuff to take the plunge into the waters of web 2 technologies:

Right, didn't manage to indent the table but never mind.
“Wikispaces seemed such a cold and isolated place. I like the feeling of being in WikiEductor” Susan ??.
Susan works as a researcher at the Educational Development Centre at Otago Polytechnic in Dunedin, New Zealand.
Seems to work just great. Now for inserting a picture within a table in open office. Very ambitious!!!
Experiment 2: Table with image Otago Poly has many Community Learning Centres.
Otago Polytechnic has community learning centres all over Otago. These provide information technology support within the community and are absolutely essential to the success of the programmes, especially those which are breaking new ground with web 2 tools.

It looks like I have to add
or a return or 2.
Experiment 3: Table with image uploaded into WikiEducator
I've repasted that table with image. Now let's try just uploading the picture.
Otago Poly has many Community Learning Centres.
GREAT!! A return solved my line problem. Didn't need
. Actually I had to fiddle around a bit with deleting returns to get it to look how I wanted it, but just playing with returns sorted it.
My only time-consuming problem was in uploading becauseI forgot to add a suffix (eg .jpeg) at the end of the file name in the upload section rather than the actual file on my desktop .... in other words finger trouble.
