Welcome to Web Accessibility for Developers
We’re happy to see such a great response to this course. Developers are the ones who make the web accessible (or make it inaccessible) so the fact that there are so many of you are here, together we have the potential to improve the accessibility of the Web substantially.
We are also hoping that what you learn here, you’ll share with others, and perhaps even develop your own courses to teach others these skills. This course is also available as an eBook that you’ll be able to use as a reference, and potentially as a textbook for your own teaching. Any of you who teach computer science, or web development, we encourage you to use what you learn here in your own courses. The reason we created the course in the first place, is because these skills are not currently being taught in formal tech courses, and they really need to be.
Week 1
This week is part OERu orientation, part setup to take the course, and part getting familiar with WAI-ARIA. Go through the OERu Orientation and the Course guide for all the information you need to do well in the course, then work on the first three units in the Learning pathways.
Next week, and the weeks that follow will be mainly coding. Feel free to jump ahead if you’re able, although discussions, activities marking, and announcements etc, will cover one module per week. Also be sure to introduce yourself in the Introductions Forum, and read through others intros to see who else is taking the course. There will be people from all over the world.
