Welcome to Professional Web Accessibility Auditing

Welcome to Professional Web Accessibility Auditing

We are excited to welcome you all to the Professional Web Accessibility Auditing.

Over the next four weeks you will learn together about Web accessibility, and how it is assessed and reported. We designed the course as a collection of readings, activities, and assessments that will help you build the skills and knowledge needed to perform professional Web accessibility audits yourself.

Where to Start:

  • Once you’ve logged into the course, start by reading the Course Home page and the Course Start page where you will find critical details on what to expect.
  • After reading through the course details, read through the other pages of the Course Guide section for additional guidance on how to approach your learning while you are in the course.

Topics and Activities for this Week:

Our first goal this week is to get to know one another, so please be sure to introduce yourself in the Introductions Forum. Read through your classmates introductions to learn more about them, and to start making connections with one another.

We’ll start into the course content this week with an Overview of Web Accessibility, to help you understand the “big picture.” We will also introduce you to ChromeVox, the screen reader we will be using throughout the course to do screen reader accessibility testing. You'll have an opportunity to describe your experience with the screen reader in the Activity 1: Experience Web Content From a Different Perspective.

In weeks second unit we’ll jump right into the important details with an Introduction to WCAG 2.0, the guidelines used when assessing web accessibility. The Scavenger Hunt Activity will provide a fun way explore WCAG and its accompanying resources. Please post your results from the scavenger hunt to your learning blog, and post a link to it in the Course General Forum and compare your findings with others to see how well you did.

We look forward to your participation!
