WORKSHOP WITH FARMERS ON DAIRY FARMING

One day workshop was conducted on Management of Dairy Farming for dairy farmers at Kaluthawalai School on 18th of July 2009. Topics covered during the workshop were in attached schedule. Resource person for this workshop apart from project members (Prof. V. Arulnandhy, Dr. Thayamini H. Seran, Mrs. T. Geretharan and Mr. S. Srikrishna) was Mrs. S. Elango, Department of Animal Science, Faculty of Agriculture. Farmers were actively participated in this workshop. Learning materials were developed on the following topics and distributed among the farmers for their future use and reference to adapt good management practices.

1. Increasing milk production in Batticaloa district 2. Pasture conservation 3. Clean milk production 4. Management of milking cows

All of the participants indicated that the contents of the workshop and the discussions would help to improve their understanding of the topics and imparted knowledge for increasing milk production at this village. They also felt that the knowledge imparted to them had immense practical values.
