A solid design blueprint

Hi Grain,

That's a solid design blueprint and pleased to see that you have identified the challenges associated with learners who may not have the social media skills to engage in the course and including tutorials for folk to get up to speed.

From our own experiences, I have found it useful to include an "orientation" session embedded in the course program where learners can actually develop and brush up on the relevant digital skills required for the course as part of a course activity - for example, as we did on DS4OER incorporating the declare yourself activity which assisted newbies in setting up their blogs and getting their heads around the course feed etc before engaging in the real content.

The other issue you will need to consider in open courses is the fact that you are working across 24 time zones. I have found that the best way to manage this is to instruct learners to participate in their own time zone. So this means, for instance, when you post Monday's instructions they need to arrive in time for the first time zone after the date line which can cause confusion for the facilitator.

OK, Wayne. Respect your first suggestion, then would it be better to add another session to this course, an orientation session, or could I integrate this task in the first session? Respect your second suggestion, probably the best option is not to set rigid boundaries, isn't? Thank you very much for your help.
