I chose this website because many parts of the world, communication infrastructure and mechanisms are limited and currently rely on word-of-mouth, we need new forms of communication or new approaches that allow the global standardization of accurate and rapid communication.

Technology needs to improve the timeliness and consistency in the communication of a natural disaster once an accurate prediction has been made. Sometime the information given out prior to a natural disaster is confusing, misleading, or ignored. In order to avoid loss of life we need quick, reliable, consistent and one that can be accessed by everyone.

The advantages was that this interactive technology was to deliver top teaching from institutions like Harvard, Stanford, and MIT free via Internet to thousands/millions around the world. This was supposed to be a way to scale up higher education. This was a way to cut the cost of education for those who could not afford the Ivy League style universities. b.https://www.rewire.org/our-future/wearable-computers-change-world-better/

How Wearable Computers Can Change the WORLD FOR THE better

I found this topic very interesting. There was a very good representation of the facts. The author started by reminding us of the Google Glass (which I did not know about) which was the talk a few years ago. This computer attached to your face and was integrated with your vision. This would tie computing into your words, movements and thoughts. He let us know that this wasn't really new and took us back to growing up and using wearable technology without knowing that what it was. He mention use of Discman, mp3 players and now smartphones.

We were presented with a brief history of wearable computers starting with Thad Starner who started building wearable computer prototypes in 1990. In 1999 he had a portable computer controlled with a handheld keyboard. He felt that bringing technology closer to the body gets it out of the way. This would add to our efficiency by taking task out of our hands into our sight. He indicates that wearable computers are just a messing device.

Google Glass can be used for social good because it can help people who are hard of hearing by using Starner's app called Captioning on Glass. The persons wears the glasses. The other person speaks into a smartphone that has the app installed which connects him wirelessly to the glasses. The smartphone will transcribe what is said into words which will appear on the google Glass screen for the person who is hard of hearing. The

I chose this site because it shows how technology will be used in the future to help those that have special needs. Google glass is one of these technologies.

Disaster Prediction

I am a student at De Anza College. I am taking the CIS2 Class taught by Valerie Taylor

Although tsunami alerts can be issued within minutes of an earthquake occurring, the most effective warning for nearby communities is the earthquake itself.

Education is crucial in saving lives so people need to know how to evacuate immediately to higher ground if they feel a large earthquake. If higher ground is not nearby, another option is to evacuate vertically, by going upstairs in well-constructed multi-storey buildings.

Refining the alogrithm for earthquake early warning to better estimate the earthquake size and to reduce false alarms is an active area of research in the earthquake community.

Technological speed is the only reason earthquake warnings became possible. Improvements will cause warnign to arrive faster.

Since many parts of the world, communication infrastructure and mechanisms are limited and currently rely on word-of-mouth, we need new forms of communication or new approaches that allow the global standardization of accurate and rapid communication.

Technology needs to improve the timeliness and consistency in the communication of a natural disaster once an accurate prediction has been made. Sometime the information given out prior to a natural disaster is confusing, misleading, or ignored. In order to avoid loss of life we need quick, reliable, connsistent and one that can be accessed by everyone.
