Alternatively, install the wikieducator bookmarklet and click on it to build widgets in your page.
This is a proof of concept. I have to use the blockquote because I need an html tag that is uniquely identifiable. Ideal would be to have a widged tag but this will require a tighter integration. Possibly via the writing of a wikimedia plugin.
For now, It works the first time only. If you try and click when the widgeds have already been added, the sceen looks a bit mess. Reload the page. (this can be fixed, at this stage, I only wanted to see if I could get it to work.)

All interactives are in javascript. They are open source. The source is available on github https://github.com/widged/widgeds. Some of them are available for remix at: http://jsdo.it/widged/codes.
They can be re-used in different environments. Wikispaces http://widgeds.wikispaces.com/, likely Moodle in the near future (Tim Hunt, working on the question engine for Moodle has been most helpful), possibly Mahara. You simply cut and paste the list of items between the different environments and the rest is managed for you.
Everything is done client-side. There is no harm of any kind to the hosting service. This solution was inspired by popular bookmarklets in the web design community:

My husband tried it on the iPad. Not obvious to add a bookmarklet there but it can be done*. Working like a charm. (*You have to create a bookmark and copy and paste the bookmarklet text instead of the usual url)
