I work fulltime in the Essential Services Industry as the Accounts & Office Manager, I have completed my diploma in Community Services and Weight loss.
I recently started the nfp, un-associated organisation "Socially Connected" the aim of this organisation is to reduce isolation, through creating activities that encourage social connections between people,(re-creating communities).
It seems to me that many relational and social skills are being lost, defining the unifying culture of what is and is not acceptable is also becoming harder to define. I suspect that many insecurities are exasperated by people’s fears of what might happen, will they be accepted if they engage in communities. Failed attempts to make friends, negative self talk about what they think others thought of them and their attempt, together with a lack of networks and friends who can encourage them in the valuable person they are, can result in them pulling away into isolation, depression and inactivity.
I suspect this is causing some of today's illnesses such as depression and obesity.
I believe that restoring community is urgently required in all of our societies.
This is an area of social education I am looking to do whatever I can to improve.
