In Zimbabwe, the primary education system is such that children now have to spend 8 years in primary school with the recent introduction of the early childhood development class of grade zero from the usual seven years where pupils would do grades 1 to 7. Grades 0-3 are often considered the junior classes while grades 4-7 are the senior ones.
Normally teachers take their classes from one year to the other for at least two years with grade five teachers normally taking their pupils to grade seven, the examination or stage stage of primary school.
