'This is turning out to be a stream of consciousness as I get to grips with this stuff'
HELLO. I AM DESPARATELY TRYING TO FOLLOW THIS MOST CONFUSING TUTORIAL (TUTORIAL 3)- AT LEAST TO ME. IS ANYONE ELSE HAVING TROUBLE.
THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE ANY SEQUENCE TO THE PROCESS

OK I am starting to get the hang of it now and I am going to try to enter my name on the user page and my initial reaction was unfair
I have been away for a few days with my grandchildren, hence the delay

In the early 1970's the Open University encouraged student self help groups and much was written about them See 'Samuel Smiles revisited' by Diane Bailey in one of the early volumes of Teaching at a Distance- the predecessor of Open Learning. Self help is in some ways like Wikis perhaps. One of the criticisms of self-help ( by cynics, was they suggested it encouraged 'the sharing of ignorance'. We, in the OU argued against this and gave our students advice on how to get the most out of self help.
My whole professional career has been focussed on Learner Support and I have had a number of roles within the UK Open University until I retired in 2004.
