SaferNet Brazil is a civil association under private law, national in scope, non-profit or economic, without linking political party, religious or racial. Founded on December 20, 2005 by a group of computer scientists, teachers, researchers and graduates in law, the organization came to realize actions conceived throughout 2004 and 2005, when the founders have developed research and social projects to combat pornography on the Internet in Brazil.

At that time, it was urgently necessary to provide an efficient response, consistent and continuing in Brazil to the serious problems related to misuse the Internet to the crimes and violations against human rights. Grooming, production and dissemination of large-scale images of sexual abuse of children and teenagers, racism, neo-Nazism, religious intolerance, homophobia, advocacy and incitement to crimes against life and abuse against animals were already cyber crimes which violate human rights in the present network.

Brazil, however, lacked policies and concrete actions to confront these complex phenomena, which involve varying economic, social and cultural rights, with consequences and implications in the fields of , morals, education, health, law, public safety, science and technology.

The mission of SaferNet BRAZIL is to promote the safe use of Information Technologies and Communication, and create the conditions necessary to ensure the effective protection of Human Rights in the Information Society, contributing to a culture of accountability and empowe'ring c'hildren, youth and adults to build safe and healthy social relationships through the use of appropriate technologies.

Fight against cybercrimes can´t never demage Freedom of speech right.
