Robert E. Cummings
I teach composition in the US college environment, and I have been teaching writing with Wikipedia (off and on) since 2004. Most of my assignments involve first year composition courses, and film projects.
The projects in 2004 started me down the path of a more extensive investigation of the use of Wikipedia for teaching and the effects of electronic rhetoric on the academy's assumptions about teaching writing. This eventually became the book project Lazy Virtues: Teaching Writing in the Age of Wikipedia. I have one additional project investigating the use of wikis in higher education, which is available online via digitalculturebooks Wiki Writing: Collaborative Learning in the College Classroom .
I am currently pursuing an expansive project on the intersection of higher education and Open Education Resources The Center for Open Learning and Teaching. As of 2012 there are four main projects within COLT: (1) OER documentation, primarily on Wikipedia; (2) an open education center at the University of Mississippi; (3) an international research consortium for academics who are researching the use of OER in higher education; and (4) the creation of a consulting team to promote the use of OER as a choice for college and university continuous self-improvement projects within the framework of regional accreditation (e.g., the Quality Enhancement Project (QEP) for Southern Associate for Colleges and Schools (SACS)).
I also moderate the open listserv teaching-with-wikipedia.
