Project on capacity building of Export Agriculture Extension Officers in ICT
Introduction
Commonwealth of Learning under their Lifelong learning (L3) project is being implemented by The Open University of Sri Lanka in collaboration with the Department of Export Agriculture and Regional Development Bank to improve the livelihood standards of the rural farming community through knowledge empowerment. This project is funded by the [Commonwealth of Learning under their Lifelong learning (L3) framework].
Information and communication technology (ICT) has become an indispensable requirement to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the mechanism of agriculture extension throughout the world. Given that there is a large number of farmers per (Export) Agriculture Extension Officers (EAEO), ICT can effectively be used to increase the efficiency of the mechanism of agricultural extension in Sri Lanka. The first phase of the process necessitates capacity building of the EAEO in the ICT skills and its applications to serve the farmers in their quest for new information, knowledge and technology for crop cultivation.
As a part of its national service, The Open University of Sri Lanka is implementing a programme for capacity building of the Export Agriculture Extension Officers in ICT for agriculture with the financial grant secured from the Commonwealth of Learning.
