Teaching Algebra Conceptually[1]

In 2010-2011, a team of researchers and teachers worked on a classroom-based research project to better understand how to teach algebra conceptually https://blogs.otago.ac.nz/tac/ . One result is an interactive website that is designed to share the research findings in a way that is useful to secondary mathematics teachers. The website contains resources for teachers to use in their mathematics classrooms to identify the challeges students face when they learn algebra.  The website also contains diagnostic assessment tools and examples of how teachers have helped their students to learn algebra. Support for this work was provided by the University of Otago College of Education http://www.otago.ac.nz/education/ and the Teaching and Learning Research Initiative www.tlri.org.nz/ fund administered by the New Zealand Council for Educational Research. www.nzcer.org.nz/
