MY PROFILE
I am Juliet Nully, a female from the Solomon Islands, working for People First Network (PFnet) and residing in Honiara, Solomon Islands. I am the eldest of five(5)children and have a loving mother and father. I started my education level from kindy, then to primary school, then to High School and then to tertiary level at the University of the South Pacific (USP), Laucala Campus in Fiji doing Bachelor in Science (BSc) majoring in Mathematics and Information Systems. As from the end of 2006 I worked for PFnet as student attachment then spent a year at YouthFirst Computer Centre (YFCC) as a Computer Trainer, and then now I am back at PFnet as ICT Assistance Officer. It was my time with YFCC earlier in the year, that I came across WikiEducator.
MY PLACE AND COMMUNITY
As mentioned earlier on, I am from the Solomon Islands, specifically from an Island called Santa Isabel Province in the Solomons. Historically my island was first discovered by Mendana, who first discovered the Solomon Islands. Also that my Island was given the name Isabel after his wife. To add on to that, Isabel province is known as the longest island in the Solomon Islands. A village near my village, namely Kolotubi, the PFnet Team has installed an email station there at the end of 2007. It has brought excitement and eagerness on how such technologies can bring to the livelihood of the people there. With this it has brought how ICT is important in such rural areas where most rural dwellers are computer illiterate.
MY WORK
I am currently working at People First Network as an ICT Assistance Officer, a project of Rural Development Volunteers Association (RDVA).After coming to PFnet I worked at YFCC also a project of RDVA as a Computer Tutor or Trainer there.YFCC basically offers computer trainings on application softwares to school leavers or dropouts, organizations, and interest individuals. It was funded by the GKP, CoL and NZAid. Before I was with YFCC, I worked for two months as student attachment at Pfnet. It is from there that I have learned all about the ICT developments in my country and the Distant Learning Centre Projects (DLCP). It is there too that I get to know David Leeming and the other DLC Supervisors, naming a few, Phillip Pukefenua, Avis Mamamu, Peter Kwanairara, Andoss Tausefoki, Paul Tauriki and Roy Atu.
