Introduction

The Online Information Gathering workshop is one of a series of eLearning Certificate workshops run by the Educational Technology Unit in CAD. Its main aim is to provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to conduct academic research using online resources like search engines, Information gateways, directory portals and databases. The assumption we have made in this workshop is that you already have the Basic Computer skills such as; use of mouse, opening and closing programs, saving documents and logging in to the Internet. This is basically meant to fine tune your search skills using online resources.

Objectives

At the end of the workshop the participants should:

1.0 Understand more about the World Wide Web as an environment for finding information
2.0 Explore strengths and weaknesses of different search tools
3.0 Learn to use tools properly
4.0 Evaluate information found in the Internet
