My name is Alliydan, I am a 40 year old wife and mother of three. I am presently an acting librarian at one of the denominational girls’ school in south Trinidad.
I have been in libraries for the past eighteen (18) years. I have worked in the various branches of libraries including the Public Libraries, the Special Libraries and in School Libraries.
I guess you can say that I have come full circle; initially I started my career in libraries at a school formerly known as Pleasantville Junior Secondary School, which was actually the school I attended for my first three years of secondary education. I worked there for three years and then applied for the position of Library Assistant II. I was sent to a branch of the Public Library in Arima, which was a great distance from my home, which meant that I had leave home at 5.30 a.m. daily to travel by public transport to get to work on time. It was a nice experience; I met a lot of people there some of which I still consider to be good friends. I worked at Arima Branch Library for more or less the better part of two (2) years, and then got a transfer to a special library formerly School Libraries Division which oversaw purchases for all secondary school libraries in the country. This was quite a learning experience for me, I learned to use the computer here, as well as some computerized library software it was very enlightening, and I also met a lot of people and made new friends, some of which I still keep in contact with up to this day.
I appreciate this new experience of acting as a librarian, it gives me a chance to hone in on some qualities I didn’t know I had and find those qualities that was needed to better enable me to do the job. This has really been a challenge for me, being the introvert that I am, and it still continues to be a challenge at times, but that’s the beauty of it…the challenge!
Participating in this workshop has been enlightening for me, even though I missed an entire day due to my inattentiveness. But I as glad to play catch up with the rest of the class and learn as much as I possible can and put it to good use.
