Overview

The VUSSC Boot Camp 4 (11th - 28th November 2007) was held at the National University of Samoa on the beautiful island town of Apia, Western Samoa.

The theme for this Boot Camp was 'Introduction to Disaster Management'. A course outline addressing disaster management in VUSSC countries was drawn up by five selected team leaders prior to the boot camp.

There were a total of 24 participants in attendance from 13 small states of the Commonwealth (Belize, Jamaica, Lesotho, Mauritius, Namibia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Seychelles, The Bahamas, The Gambia, The Maldives, Trinidad and Tobago, Tuvalu and Vanuatu). There were also 2 resource people and 3 representatives from the COL.

The participants were divided into five groups and were tasked with writing three units each to complete the course on 'Introduction to Disaster Management'.By the end of the workshop, participants had compiled a draft course manual which became like a working document (work in progress). Over a period of about six months, this draft course manual was revised to come up with a final draft. The completed course manual for 'Introduction to Disaster Management' can be found here
