How can templates be used on talk pages, e.g., I tried {{subst:welcome}}
on a new user's talk page, but it didn't work. -- Jtneill - Talk 00:17, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- Just posted a demo message showing that templates work on the talk pages. The reason why {{subst:welcome}} doesn't work on WE is that we don't have that template on our wiki. You can of course develop a new template in WE by copying the code over from WP -- just cite your sources :-) --Wayne Mackintosh 01:20, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, I see, that's good. But how can I see what code you used? I can't work out how to see the details of the edit you made in my talk page history? -- Jtneill - Talk 13:37, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
- OK, I found that by editing the thread, the syntax was a transclusion:
{{Hello|Jtneill|'''Just a demo that templates work on talk pages. This is our Hello template}}
. Thanks, Wayne. -- Jtneill - Talk 13:44, 11 June 2008 (UTC)- I didn't add the parameters properly when trying to use the Hello template here: User_talk:David_ti#lqt_thread_2623. How can I fix this up? I don't seem to be able to edit what I've posted on this user's talk page. -- Jtneill - Talk 10:23, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
