AI to Solve the World's Challenges

Artificial Intelligence is one of the most interesting and challenging type of technology that we have started to face.  It can be helpful in many ways like assisting doctors with diagnoses, give students a better way of education and predicting certain crisis from happening before they do.

A.I. Shows Promise Assisting Physicians

When people go to the doctors, there are times that the doctor ends up a misdiagnosis.  Having AI help assist doctors with diagnosing patients illnesses and give a more accurate report on what the actual illness might be.  Developing the AI so it can check the medical records, patient’s symptoms, lab results and other clinical data to figure out and give a more accurate answer.

How is AI Used in Education

The article talks about how AI can help students learn to the fullest.  Having AI help fill gaps in learning and teaching will allow schools and teachers to more and help students achieve more.  There have already been ways AI has been used in the educational system using certain tools that help develop skills and testing systems.  Some of the AI that’s being developed that can provide learning, testing and feedback to students and give them the challenges they are ready for and identifies gaps in knowledge.

Artificial intelligence helps predict volcanic eruptions

Being able to predict volcanic eruptions sooner before it happens can prevent casualties from happening.  This article talks about how AI can predict volcanic eruptions before they happen.  Having AI that’s able to tell the difference between atmospheric shifts and ground motion can give us a better chance at understanding when eruptions can occur.

Individual Project

Module 1: Introductions- Overall Impact of Computers on Society

1. Interesting People with My Name http://howmanyofme.com/

  • It was nice to see how many people have the same first, last or full name as you. I always wanted to know how many people have the same first name as me since I never met anyone with the same first name. It was nice to see that there are people in the US with the same name as mine.

2. Online Community Service https://www.bookshare.org/ [BEST]

  • This websites helps people with disabilities make reading easier. This topic made me think that instead of just helping people in person, there's other ways types of ways you can do community service like this website. Thanks to the internet, things like this is possible.

Module 2: Privacy and Freedom of Speech

1. Privacy and Personal Information https://www.purevpn.com/blog/what-is-internet-privacy-scty/

  • To me, this is very important because our privacy on the internet is something we need to be more careful with. There are too many ways our information gets sold or leaked from websites. Being able to protect your information is something we should be more concern about.

2. Protect It http://techland.time.com/2013/07/24/11-simple-ways-to-protect-your-privacy/ [BEST]

  • Thinking about ways to you keep your privacy more secure is pretty helpful. Reading articles like this made me a bit more cautious on what kind of information I put on signing up for websites and stuff.

Module 3: Intellectual Property

1. Art and Computers https://www.pewinternet.org/2004/12/05/artists-and-musicians-are-enthusiatic-internet-users-and-they-believe-the-internet-helps-them-make-and-sell-their-work/ [BEST]

  • The internet can be a good and bad thing. Artists and musicians use the internet as a way to help them market their work but at the same time people are abusing it by downloading or using it for free.

2. Use It https://www.wabisabilearning.com/blog/7-life-skills-beyond-school

  • I liked this article because it talks about ways you can improve your life skills beyond school. I feel like having these life skills will be beneficial for everyone who takes advantage of learning and working on them.

Module 4: Crime

1. Social Bookmarking https://www.reddit.com/r/all/

  • I really liked the topic and thought it was cool a lot of people used reddit for their website choice. What I liked about the subreddit all is that it's pretty much the most popular/talked about topics on reddit. It was a nice way to see what was going on because the topics that are brought up could be just something funny or just something you need to be aware of.

2. Hacked - now what? https://www.pcmag.com/article/321338/what-to-do-when-youve-been-hacked [BEST]

  • A lot of people have gone through being hacked, even me. When it first happened to me, I panicked and didn't know what to do at first. Everyone should know what they need to do when they get hacked, making sure you try and recover your account and change all information should be the first thing you do.

Module 5: Employment, Education, and Entertainment

1. K-8 Engineering https://www.scholastic.com/teachers/articles/teaching-content/stem-k-8-engineering/ [BEST]

  • This is something that should be talked about more. As technology keeps on advancing, we are going to need more engineers, scientists and programmers.

2. Open Textbooks https://open.bccampus.ca/find-open-textbooks/?uuid=fa667d22-26c7-487e-8d75-0e57ef8eece7

  • Some books for classrooms can end up being more expensive than the class itself. A lot of students face debts due to college costs. I feel like teachers should try to look into using more open textbooks to help out students.

Module 6: Grand Challenges

1. Challenge Solutions and Technology https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2018/04/what-happens-if-all-the-coral-reefs-die [BEST]

  • I feel like everyone should know this. Coral reefs provide more 70% of the Earth's oxygen. I use to think that trees were the only things that provided us oxygen but learned that coral reefs provided more than 2 times the amount trees do.

2. Challenge: AI to Solve the World's Challenges https://www.xprize.org/prizes/artificial-intelligence

  • Artificial Intelligence is going to be a big part of the future. AI has the ability to resolve many of the worlds problems and make the lives of millions if not billions, better.

Module 7: Evaluating and Controlling Technology

1. Share it https://discordapp.com/

  • There are a lot of different types of voice communication programs to use while doing things such as playing games online. Discord to me, is the best type of voice communication program to use to try and communicate with people.

2. Computers and Society video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqXdLhQiYbc [BEST]

  • Kohei Yasui talks about why Net Neutrality will take away your internet freedom. This got me thinking if Net Neutrality was actually passed, how different will surfing the internet be?

Module 8: Risks, Failures, and Responsibilities

1. Learn to Code https://code.org/minecraft [BEST]

  • Getting the younger generations into coding will help the lack of engineers, programmers and scientists that we currently have now. It was nice to see that there are simple games out there that can help young kids learn how to code in a fun way.

2. Wikipedia and Trust https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:SpaceX

  • Most of the time I'm trying to research any topic, Wikipedia is always one of the top searches. When I looked into Wikipedia more, I learned it was a non-profit website.
