CLIMBING EVEREST: LESSONS FOR A POST-PANDEMIC WORLD

WITH SUSAN HUNT

Zest, the Department of English, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, University of Delhi, organized the first session of the distinguished Zest lecture series 2021, “Post-Pandemic World: From Pandemonium to Paradise?” on 4th October 2021 at 3 pm on the online platform, Zoom. Its title was “Climbing Everest: Lessons for a Post-Pandemic World”. The speaker was Susan Hunt. The participant number was around sixty, including the Faculty Members. Dr Rohith P, the Teacher-in-charge, Dr Anubha Mukherji Sen, Dr Jayini Adhyapak, Dr Lalit Kumar, Mr Ranbeer Kumar, Dr Mishail Sharma, Mr Chandrashekhar Yadav, Dr Pooja Bhardwaj Sharma and Dr Ankita Pandey were also present. The event started with a welcome speech delivered by Sneha R, the President of Zest. The lecture was a pristine opportunity for the participants since it involved the experiences related to adventure sports, where the speaker, Susan Hunt, spoke about her journey to become a Mountaineer. She shared her various venturesome encounters, including mini-triathlon at the age of 30, her successful completion of The Ironman, her aquatic escape in multiple places like Bondi SLSC of New Zealand, Maui Channel Swim in Hawaii, etc. She also shared the importance of having the right team, how her life had changed after the Pandemic and how she missed the thrills because of the lockdown. She shared the Google maps path to the top of Mt Everest and took the participants through each point to the top by sharing anecdotes and pictures. She spoke about how important it is to exit and quit when it is needed. This was followed by the Question/Answers round where the participants asked her their doubts related to various sports, Pandemic, trekking Mt Everest and how the post-pandemic world would be. The Zest YouTube Team took a few photos of the session with teachers and students for archiving and records. The event was streamed live on the Zest YouTube channel.
