Advantages of the VisualEditor?

• icons for different editing options are widely used (e.g. by Microsoft Word, Excel etc), and by Learning Management systems (e.g. Moodle)
• tools are easily accessible

Also,

1. no knowledge of programming necessary
   1. this is great for people who want to contribute but worry about their technical ability
   2. it therefore ensures wider access to a larger audience
2. no need to learn wikimarkup
   1. if this were necessary, many people could be put off!
   2. for those users who prefer it, wikimarkup works alongside the VisualEditor (in other words, VisualEditor has not replaced wikimarkup). Wikimarkup seems to provide more flexibility (although, for me, this example of how to build tables using wikimarkup looks very complicated!!)
