[[The department realized that acquisition of reading, writing and numeracy provided by the National Literacy programme alone did not adequately meet various needs of learners. For this reason life skills are taught alongside the existing literacy programme such as the following: Nutrition, personal hygiene, basketry, candle and floor polish making, sewing and knitting and entrepreneurship skills.
