The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) was established in 1947 as the first of five regional commissions of the United Nations. UNECE serves 56 member States on the European continent, Central Asia, as well as North America, a total of 1.2 billion people. The GDP of the UNECE region represents 62% of the world GDP.
The UNECE concentrates its efforts on building and strenghtening Europe on an economic and social scale. Its activities are in the areas of transport, environnement, statistics, energy, trade, economic cooperation and integration, and technical assistance.
