What are your thoughts on quality and open authoring?

I think that Open Authoring Approaches should be used in developing resources in education as they give the opportunity to work in a collaborative way, besides the students have a quick access to the information that has been previously edited, so they can share, correct, etc. the same document.
I've read that WikiEducator is more reliable than Wikipedia as in the latter you don't need a verifiable account to make edits, so you can distort information. That would be my only concern, how to find a way to verify the information provided.
