Upload to Wikimedia Commons?
Hi Kim,
Just a thought -- where possible I would encourage that the images are uploaded on the Wikimedia Commons - -i.e enabling wider sharing.
If you use the identical file name of the image on the commons in WikiEducator, it will copy all the relevant metadata saving time and effort (in case you are not aware of this feature.)
Yes, my point exactly. In the ToC I see "4 Uploading a new image on WikiEducator from your computer" and not "4 Uploading a new image to Wikimedia Commons for use on WikiEducator from your computer".
Perhaps add a link to Commons upload page? (and mention that the same file name can be used on WikiEducator to display the same image). There is a lot written about this on Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons if anyone wants to write a tutorial (minor extension of this one). For example: Moving files from Wikipedia to the Commons.
Re: "(in case you are not aware of this feature.)"
- Another useful feature would be to tag an image for transfer or automatic upload (while uploading) to Wikimedia Commons. See for example, How to transfer files to Commons.
Would be useful,
However I worry about the extent of missing image metadata from many Newbies who disregard proper image attribution including incorrect licensing :-(.
We will need to think about how to clean up unattributed images in WikiEducator and better community management of the process to tag and remove offending images.
