Super cool course for the open course environment
I'm really excited by the "Our Pixelated Eyeballs" course concept - so much can be done with this topic in an open course environment. It has general public appeal with strong connections to academic study for formal credit.
I don't want to get into the debates of "competency-based" versus "learning time" - There are passionate advocates on both sides of the fence.
At the end of the day, for the benefit of learner mobility and credit transfer it is important to think about "notional learning hours" - that is time an average learner would take to complete the learning outcomes. In North America, a 3 credit course would equate roughly to 120 notional learning hours. I also recommend that the designer think about how the course could be structured into 3 micro courses of roughly 40 notional learning hours each. The 3 micro courses can be offered as a full package sequentially - but its important to think about micros early in the design process because this has implications for assessment design. Ideally - it would be good to have three summative assessments associated with the outcomes covered for each micro.
