Psychology as a scenario/project-based course

Jump to: navigation, search

It is really good to see psychology listed as one of the open courses. However.....

This is a real opportunity to design something fantastic rather than to stay with the traditional format as described in the blue print. Have you thought about introducing a scenario/problem-based or project-based model of learning with authentic assessment that is strongly linked to the real world? Learning about psychology could be trendy and futuristic especially if based on the current situation in the world - there are so many examples to teach from to really engage students. It would also enable more creative formative and summative assessments to be designed. For example, instead of a quiz, groups of students could work together (communicating and collaborating using social media and web 2.0 strategies) to explore, discuss and critique real world situations in the context of the topics they are studying. How about multimedia portfolios - these could be in the form of blogs or on other platforms, and if open would introduce students to the global professional community who hopefully would contribute to their learning.

Psychology is such a rich fascinating discipline, please make the learning experience amazing.
