Hi -- I don't know much about planets and things, but isn't Mars closer to the sun than Earth?

Why is mars colder than Earth -- I would think that because it is closer to the sun that it would be hotter?

Why is that?

Cheers

Hi,

Actually, Mars is the farthest of the rocky plantes from the sun. The rocky planets are the ones inside the astroid belts. All the ones outside that except Pluto are made of gasses.

Aah that makes sense -- I went to wikipedia and now see that Mars is further away from the sun than Earth.

You learn something new everyday! Thanks for your help.
