Excellent start to the design blueprint

This is a great start to the design blueprint. I really like how you are linking the assessment strategy to the stated learning outcomes at this phase of the design process.

With due consideration that this is a very early draft and you have not had the opportunity to consult extensively with the academic team a few thoughts:

  • Please see my comments about notional learning hours posted as a discussion point on the course description. I would really love to see this course structured as 3 micro courses - so it would be good to think about how the assessments could be combined / structured into 3 core assessments.
  • The use of automated assessment is ideal for OERu courses. However, you need to think about implementation detail. Do these MCQ assessments count towards the final grade or are they formative in nature? If they are a requirement for summative assessment - we need to think about the practical implementation and administrative procedures because there are issues of identify validation, registration as students at KPU etc. We will need to think how these integrate within the high-level assessment model because you reference writing about stuff in the learning outcomes.
  • Because writing about stuff is a learning outcome in the course - I'm wondering whether it would be appropriate to include personal blog posts in the student content interactions?
  • Minor issue - I have found that its better to list prospective OERs for reuse as a separate item on the course planning page, rather than including these in the design blueprint.

I'm really chuffed with this potential course submission from KPU - it has the potential for an amazing and compelling collection of mOOCs!

Thanks, Wayne. This is really helpful for us. We are very fortunate to have a librarian on our team who will be helping us source appropriate oers (some of the original resources may need some swapping in of appropriately licensed ones) and will definitely take your advice and build out our inventory in a separate page. And thanks too, for the info on notional hours and micros.
