Introduction

This topic develops issues raised in Theme 2 of this course Pattern Recognition.

R is a programming language and a software environment for statistical computing and graphics that is supported by the R Foundation for Statistical Computing.[1]

Kurt Hornik and Friedrich Leisch[2] introduce R in the first edition of the R Newsletter. The R Core Team provide a brief background report about R in the newsletter[3]
