Introductory Note

In British Columbia, the grade 5 science curriculum includes the study of simple machines and forces. The lessons included on this page are aimed at meeting the outcomes of the Grade 5 Physical Science IRP but can be adapted for younger or older students. The teacher will guide students to discover that simple machine can make work easier. Levers, wedges, screws, pulleys, and inclined planes are examples of simple machines.
