What's it about?
This course is for English foreign language learners who wish to apply for a job in the US and want to improve their résumé writing skills while at the same time learning new terminology related to their profession.
What will I learn?
In this course, you will learn:
- the résumé format
- how to read sample résumés and determine which essential information is missing from them
- the different types of résumés
- how to classify résumés according to their type
- how to write a critique of a résumé
- grammar points such as subject-verb agreement, phrasal verbs, and word forms
- how to produce a a final draft of an American style résumé tailored to the needs of a potential employer
What's involved?
You will be part of a wide learning community composed of people from very different ages, backgrounds, abilities and qualifications, all of them interested in improving their English writing skills.
The course will be offered as a micro open online course in which we will offer online resources for collaborative analysis and learning. This work will involve autonomous searching of materials and learning in order to collectively share and discuss the different approaches within our learning community.
What prerequisites would I have, if any?
You must possess intermediate to advanced level proficiency to register in this course. An internet connection and basic web browsing skills are recommended, along with the ability to create a blog and microblog account (instructions and self-study tutorials will be provided).
