Consider the following questions
  • What are your thoughts around the five competencies identified?
  • Do you agree or disagree with these competencies for teaching practice and why?

2. Talk with colleagues
  • Talk further with colleagues and explore their thoughts and approaches to biculturalism and culturally competent teaching.
  • Reflect on these discussions. How do your colleagues view points differ from each other and from your own thinking?
  • Note your thoughts in your learning journal.
3. Explore the literature
  • Review literature that you have already found or search for further literature around cultural competence, biculturalism and teaching.
  • Consider - What does the literature suggest regarding best practice? What have you observed in practice?

4. Reflect on your learning around cultural competence and consider your own approach to students
  • Record your thoughts so you can look back on these later.
