Unit 3.3 Web application development tools & Technologies

In the previous units, you learned about the multimedia basics, Multimedia elements and Multimedia production techniques. The role of multimedia in designing eLearning content is important, to develop user friendly, meaningful, self-paced and interactive learning content.

E-learning application permits the predefined learning activities. The designer has all the responsibility to determine the course structure, integrate the content, deciding media element, setting the interactive parameters. The most important step is to choose the right development tool for effective delivery of the content. In this unit, you are introduced to some development tools and technologies that can be used to develop customized learning solutions. To deliver quality and innovative learning, these tools can provide enough freedom and flexibility to the designers for their creativity.

In this unit you will learn HTML as a markup language used to create web page, XML used as transport and store data in web pages, JavaScript as the most popular scripting language on the internet which works in all major browser such as firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, Opera and Safari. Now a day there are number of applications and websites that won't work unless you have Java installed and more are created every day. Java is fast, secure, and reliable. From laptops to datacenters, game consoles to scientific supercomputers, cell phones to the Internet, Java is everywhere. Linux was designed to provide personal computer users a free and very low-cost operating system and Android (Linux-based operating system) for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers. Android powers millions of phones, tablets, and other devices and brings the power of the web into your hands.
