eMundus is an initiative supported by the European Commission which aims to strengthen cooperation and awareness among higher education institutions worldwide by exploring the potential of open approaches including OER, MOOCs and virtual mobility to support long term inter-cultural academic partnerships for improving learning and teaching using open education approaches.

The eMundus project is collaborating with the OER Foundation and the OERu network of international partners to help establish long-term international partnerships, not only to attract international students, but to meaningfully cooperate and share best practices with counterpart universities on a global scale.

Under the leadership of the MENON European research and innovation network, a consortium of universities from Europe, Brazil, Canada, Indonesia and the OER Foundation in New Zealand are exploring opportunities and solutions for MOOCs and virtual mobility in higher education. The eMundus project is supported by the Erasmus Mundus Programme of the European Commission.
