Thomas Edison State College provides flexible, high-quality, collegiate learning opportunities for self-directed adults, wherever they live or work.

Established in 1972, Thomas Edison State University is one of the oldest senior public institutions of higher education in the United States dedicated exclusively for adults. Today, we remain a national leader in the assessment of adult learning and a pioneer in the use of educational technologies to develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate degree programs for adults. We currently serve approximately 21,000 students throughout the world who complete online and independent study courses and prior learning assessment programs, including credit-by-exam and portfolio assessment. We also evaluate and award credit for military and professional training and serve thousands of students enrolled through partnerships with the U.S. military and corporations.

We look forward to continuing our work leveraging OERs to create competency-based degree programs that enable students to benefit from college-level knowledge acquired through open resources.
