Abscissa

Let [math]P(x,y)[/math] be any point in the two dimensional coordinate system, [math]x[/math] the distance of a point [math]P(x,y)[/math] from [math]\text {y-axis}[/math]. (i.e. the line [math]x=0[/math]) is called Abscissa.



Examples

For the point [math]P(5,8)\,[/math], Abscissa is [math]5\,[/math]
