Definition
 Abscissa Let $P(x,y)$ be any point in the two dimensional coordinate system, $x$ the distance of a point $P(x,y)$ from $\text {y-axis}$. (i.e. the line $x=0$) is called Abscissa.

For the point $P(5,8)\,$, Abscissa is $5\,$
