YOUTH LEISURE AND RECREATION IN KENYA

INTRODUCTION

This course will highlight several aspects about leisure and recreation. Chapter 1 will deal with definitions of leisure and recreatin. Chapter 2 will deal with theory and practice of leisure and recreation. Chapter 3 will deal with the role of leisure and recreation for the youth in Kenya. Leisure and recreation for the youth is particularly important because the youth form the majority (more than 60%) of Kenya's population and for this group, leisure and recreation occupies over 80% of their time. It is therefore paramount that issues pertaining to leisure and recreation for the youth are given priority.Before detailed discussion on this topic is done, it is necessary that we define terms such as leisure and recreation, examine the various links to leisure and recreation

CHAPTER 1

This chapter will highlight the definitions of leisure and recreation. DEFINITION OF LEISURE

Leisure is universally considered by many authors to refer to "free time". But there is agreements that free time alone without an individual engaging in some thing cannot amount to much in relation to understanding leisure. Therefore others individuals propose that leisure should also refer to free time to engage in any chosen activity. This therefore means that leisure is free time to do anything that one pleases or feels free to do. Examples of images that protray leisure activities. Some individuals can find the setting of the sun to be a fascinating activity to watch. Therefore during their free time, they can engage in simply watching the setting sun. There are many others who might take such an activity to be simply idling. We can not blame such individuals because each individual has unique activity that makes relax. if the setting of the sun is relaxing, then let allow such individuals to enjoy themselves.
