Day One: 3 September, 2010
The workshop was inaugurated by Professor K.K Pande, Director, College of Engineering, Teerthanker Mahaveer University, Moradabad. The welcome address was given by Mr. Anchul Gupta, Head, Department of Computer Sciences. This was followed by introduction of the candidates.
The facilitator of the workshop Dr. Savithri Singh, Principal, Acharya Narendra Dev College (University of Delhi) introduced the candidates to the world of Open Educational Resources, OER. In her talk she emphasized on the advantages of using FOSS over proprietary software. She also talked about copyrights and how to use various licenses in OERs.
She along with the another facilitator Dr Ravi Toteja, Assistant Professor in Zoology, Acharya Narendra Dev College (University of Delhi) then introduced the candidates to wikieducator, a platform for creating contents. The participants were given hands on training to create an account in www.wikieducator.org and to create their own user page in wikieducator. Editing and formatting of contents using wiki syntax as well as using wiki toolbar were explained to the participants. In addition to this they were instructed on how to create subpages, external links and internal links.
Day Two: 4 September, 2010
Second day of the workshop started with an interactive session in which various doubts of the participants were cleared by the facilitators of the workshop. All the participants had got the welcome note for joining the wiki community from various registered wiki members. It was then demonstrated how to upload, edit, place and resize the images on wikieducator. Later on it was also described how to create an image gallery and infopersonal box on the user page.
Number of candidates had doubts on how safe their pages are on wiki? The doubts got cleared when they were introduced to one of the powerful tool of the wiki and that is how to access history and use of revert back feature. They were instructed on how to make tables using wiki syntax as well as using rich text.
Day Three: 5 September, 2010
On third day of the workshop participants were happy to see the Apprentice I certificates on their user pages. Participants were given hands on to upload media files, video, audio on Kaltura in wiki. They were also explained the advantage of using open office and its use in converting .doc file to .pdf file. They were amused with this and everyone uploaded .doc file using OOO converter of wiki, and pdf file on their user pages. Use of pedagogical templates was also explained.
Participants were given some time to incorporate everything which have been explained to them all through the workshop. Later on all participants presented their user page and many of them had made their pages very innovatively.
The workshop concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Mr, Amit Nigam, Convenor of the workshop.
