OER; 16-18 May, 2009
Day One: May 16, 2009
Acharya Narendra Dev College a constituent college of University of Delhi, a college which has become synonymous with innovations in teaching and learning, organized and conducted a workshop on Open Educational Resources (L4C 46) at The Shri Ram School, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi, India. The Principal, Dr. Savithri Singh inaugurated the workshop and gave a brief presentation on OER, where she spoke about the need for Open Educational Resources, the various licenses under which OER are published, the Creative Commons. She then introduced the WikiEducator as a platform for OER.
It was the followed by thrilling and thought provoking lecture by Shri Niyam Bhushan, renowned Graphics Designer and an evangelist of FOSS. His talk was titled "From a Golden Cage to a Golden Age:How to author free education with freedom". His talk evoked strong reactions, queries about Copy Left and much discussion. The participants were then introduced to the working of WikiEducator. They were given Hands-on training on creating their user page, entering and formatting of the text in edit mode.
The afternoon sessions were conducted by Dr. Neeti Misra, Dr. Ravi Toteja and Dr. Sarita Kumar who gave individual trainings to each participant about using the tool bar on their User pages and various features of navigation and community. At the end of the day, all participants were successful in making their user pages and became part of the growing community of WikiEducators. The incoming messages from different WikiEducator members were a big boost to the participants.
Day Two: May 17, 2009
Second day of the workshop was marked with the introduction to internal and external linking and was facilitated by Dr. Neeti Misra, Mr. Subhash Kumar and Ms. Shalu Mahajan. They also delivered the lectures on creating sub pages, and various features of navigation and community. Thereafter, the participants were introduced to uploading of images.The participants then practiced what they learnt and uploaded various images and created beautiful user pages.
The afternoon session was started with the introduction to LaTex by Mr. Subhash Kumar. Participants found all the LATEX functions very interesting and practiced the syntax's in the afternoon session through hands-on training. Thereafter, the participants were taught how to access history and use the revert back and talk feature etc.
Day Three: May 18, 2009
Day 4 of the workshop began with a discussion about creating the picture gallery and uploading of media files. Dr. Ravi Toteja and Dr. Sarita Kumar delivered lecture on collaborative video-Kaltura and its various functions. It was followed by the introduction to use of pedagogical templates and making tables while creating their worksheets for the students.
Participants were also introduced to export of files in Wiki format from the open office. The last session was a hands-on training on giving beautiful color to the pages, uploading and making sub-pages containing good educational content, and presentation by the participants. Participants were very enthusiastic as all of them desired to have more of such workshops in their colleges.
