OER; 12-15 May, 2009
Day One: May 12, 2009
Two parallel L4C Workshop were conducted by Acharya Narendra Dev College, Delhi University, a college which has become synonymous with innovations in teaching and learning. The Principal, Dr. Savithri Singh inaugurated the workshop and gave a beautiful presentation where she spoke about the need for Open Educational Resources, the various licenses under which OER are published, the Creative Commons. She then introduced the WikiEducator as a platform for OER.
For the afternoon session the group split into two and were conducted by Dr. Neeti Misra and Dr. Sarita Kumar who introduced the participants in the respective groups to the working of WikiEducator. These sessions were hands-on, at the end of which all participants were successful in making their user pages and became part of the growing community of WikiEducators. The incoming messages from different WikiEducator members were a big boost to the participants.
Day Two: May 13, 2009
Second day of the workshop was marked with the introduction to internal and external linking. Dr. Ravi Toteja and Dr. Sarita Kumar delivered lectures on the use of tool bar, creating sub pages and various features of navigation and community. The next session was Hands-on where participants practiced the linking features and created subpages. The participants were then taught how to access history and use the revert back and talk feature etc.
Day Three: May 14, 2009
Dr. Sarita Kumar and Dr. Ravi Toteja introduced the participants to use of pedagogical templates. Thereafter, the participants were introduced to uploading of images and making picture gallery . The participants then practiced what they learnt and uploaded various images and created beautiful picture gallery. The afternoon session was started with the introduction to LaTex by Mr. Subhash Kumar. Participants found all the LATEX functions very interesting and practiced the syntax's in the afternoon session through hands-on training.
It was the followed by thrilling lecture by Niyam Bhushan, renowned Graphics Designer, an evangelist of FOSS and his talk was titled "Goddess Saraswathi in Jail" (for the uninitiated Goddess Saraswathi is the Goddess of Education) - his talk evoked strong reactions and much discussion.
Day Four: may 15, 2009
Day 4 of the workshop began with a discussion about uploading of media files. Dr. Neeti Misra and Dr. Sarita Kumar delivered lecture on collaborative video-Kaltura and its various functions. Participants were introduced to export of files in Wiki format from the open office. The last session was a hands-on training on giving beautiful color to the pages, uploading and making sub-pages containing good educational content, and presentation by the participants. Participants were very enthusiastic as all of them desired to have more of such workshops in their colleges.
Later, the Valedictory Session was chaired by Dr. Savithri Singh and participants were given certificates of having successfully 'completed' the course.
