Humankind has created a magnificent pantheon of fictional and not-so-fictional characters. Sadly, this legacy may be stopped through a transfer of ownership to corporate rather than common ownership. The natural processes of creating, sharing, and building on stories has been subverted into a process of "claiming" the world of stories as private property. The development and sharing of Public Domain Characters can help reclaim these timeless functions.
