INTRODUCTION
Today we shall discuss the health team i am sure you have all seen a health team
at the end of the lesson the student nurse would be able to describe the various examples of the health teams at the regional,district and sub-district health team |
LESSON CONTENT
The health team have been defined as a group of people who share a common health goals and common objectives determine by community need to the achievement of which each member of the team contribute in according to his or her competent and skills and in coordination with the function of others. The members of the health team include all those who are working together for a common goal. E.g. the supporting staffs like drivers orderlies kitchen staff, cleaner all of this is important, it is important that their work in contributing be recognized as well those of the technical staff like the doctor and nurse . NB at some of the level the same people provide the services. E.g. in community level.
At all levels there are 2 kinks of teams;
- Service providing team
- Management team
TEAMS AT THE REGIONAL LEVEL
- Management team at the regional level.
- Hospital management team
- Regional health management team
HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT TEAM AT THE REGIONAL LEVEL It is a tripartite one made up of the medical director, the nurse manager and the administrator.
FUNCTIONS OF THE HMT
- They ensure access to quality of care
- They mobilize and distribute resources
- They train personnel
- They supervise an monitor activities in the hospital
- They collect, collate information for planning purposes.

REGIONAL HEALTH MANAGEMENT TEAM

The regional health management team is led by the regional Director of Health Services and comprises the following
- Deputy Director Public Health
- Deputy Director Clinical Care
- Deputy Director Nursing Services
- Deputy Director Finance and Administration
- A Member of the District Director Group.
FUNCTION OF RHMT
- Assess the needs of the various health institution.
- They mobilize and allocate resources.
- Development and dissemination of Regional protocols and guidelines based on national guidelines.’
- In service training for the staff
- Provide technical support.
- Supervise and monitor service provision at the lower level.
- Conduct Operational Research
=SERVICE PROVISION TEAM AT THE HOSPITAL (RH=)
These are specialized hospital with several units providing several services in clinical care (medicine and pediatrics) surgical care, obstetrics and gyneachology, ophalinelogy ear nose and throat care (ENT) dental services physiotherapy, psychiatrics, public health, laboratory services, mortuary services, laundry services catering services, security services, sanitary workers, transport services, financial services and pharmacy.
The health team therefore consists of medical officers of all specialilies, nurses of all grades, technicians, administrators, account officers, biostatisticians, secretarial staffs, labourers, cleaners and orderlies.
DISTRICT LEVEL
Service provision team at the district level There is usually a district hospital that serves as a referral point for serious cases from the health centres and community clinics like the RH the district hospital also provide wide range of services such as clinical services, surgical services, obstetrics and gynecological services and public health services.The team comprises medical doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacist, dispensary technicians and other paramedical staff.
MANAGEMENT TEAM AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL

The hospital management team is made up of 3 people which is led by the medical superintendent. The other members are nurse manager and the hospital administrator. FUNCTIONS
- Ensure the delivery of quality care.

- Train staff
- Carry out supervision and monitoring
DISTRICT HEALTH MANAGEMENT TEAM
The team comprises health workers or experts in various specialized areas such as maternal and child health, Disease control, Nutrition, health promotion and financial and administrative services. The following are the members of the team.
- District Director of Health Services leader of the team
- Medical Superintendent
- Nursing officer of maternal and child health
- Technical officer in charge of Disease control
- Technical officer in charge of Nutrition
- Human resource officer
- Accountant
FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for planning, organizing, monitoring and evaluation of services in the whole district using available information.
- Conduct training needs assessment
- Carry out training for lower level officers provide tech and administrative support to the lower level
- Carry out research
SUB-DISTRICT LEVEL
Service provision The team provides integrated services in clinical, public health and maternity services at a health centre. The team is headed by a Medical Assistant the others are;
- Midwives
- Community Health Nurses
- Field technicians
SUB-DISTRICT MANAGEMENT TEAM
The SDHT is made up of the Health Centre management team and other technical heard of health related agencies e.g. water and sanitation and other health care providers in the sub district such as TBA, Community based surveillance agency.
FUNCTIONS Ensure provisions of quality primary health care health services Supervise monitor and train lower level health workers e.g. TBA Fuldge a close partnership with community institutions and leaders, village based health workers and other health related institution in the catchments area. Plays advocacy role in ensuring the provision of health related services such as sanitation supply of portable water and the protection of the environment.
