INTRODUCTION
As a group, we have decided to produce lecture notes on the understanding of thematic and integrated learning approaches for student teachers.
Theme
A theme is a topic or unit on which learning is based. Some of the examples of themes are myself, water, weather, plants and animals. |
Sub-theme
Clear statements showing what the learners should be able to do at the end of the learning experience.
There should be at most 3 objectives for a lesson.
|
MATERIALS
Teaching and learning materials related to the sub-theme that can be used to help the learners achieve the specified objectives; e.g. models, pictures, charts etc.
INTRODUCTION OF THE LESSON
We start from known to unknown i.e. should be through reference to the prior knowledge of the children. It can be a story, a song that should be related to the sub-theme.
MAIN DISCUSSION
Both the facilitator and the learners discuss concepts as outlined in the sub-theme objectives.
NUMERACY
This involves discussion and activities that will help learners achieve the numeracy objectives.
LITERACY
Discussion and activities that will achieve the literacy objectives. This involves reading and writing activities.
GROUPWORK
SONG & PSYCHOMOTOR ACTIVITIES
STORY
Moshanyana Senkatana a pholosa sechaba ka ho bolaea kholumolumo. Learners are told or read a story related to the sub-theme.
EVALUATION
Evaluate the three lesson objectives. For example: Were the lesson objectives achieved? If so, how?
CONCLUSION
Summarise the whole lesson.
