Assessable competency

Show us you can:

  • Write a project plan for a simple project.

Overview

This Edubit requires you to create and submit a project plan. There are eight tasks based on the learning challenges in this micro-course. The outputs of each challenge constitute the component parts for assembling the project plan. If you participated in the OERu online course and completed these challenges, you may edit and improve your original answers before assembling the project plan for submission.

Consult the assessment rubric before preparing and after completing your submission to ensure that you have met the minimum requirements for achieving this Edubit.

You must complete nine (9) tasks for this Edubit assessment:

Task 1 Candidate's context
Task 2 Resource requirements challenge
Task 3 Gantt chart challenge
Task 4 Budget challenge
Task 5 Quality challenge
Task 6 Procurement challenge
Task 7 Risk challenge
Task 8 Assemble a project plan

Task 1: Candidate's context

I can:

  • Provide a brief description of my current role, why I am submitting this Edubit assessment and provide a summary of any prior work experience in project management or a related field.

This information is not assessed but is intended to provide context for your assessor.

Task 2: Resource requirements challenge

Resource link: Resource requirements challenge

Performance indicators

I can:

  • Identify the tasks and estimate the resource requirements for a project.

Evidence to demonstrate competency

By providing:

  1. A project you have chosen for completing the assessment tasks. The project should ideally be able to be completed within a year, involve a minimum of three stakeholders and require inputs from two or more people to complete the project. Consult the “Your project” learning pathway for more information on choosing a project for this Edubit.
  2. A table estimating the resources requirements for the individual project tasks including specific quantities for:
    • Staff required
    • Hours of work
    • Facilities
    • Equipment
    • Other resources

Task 3: Gantt chart challenge

Resource link: Gantt chart challenge

Performance indicators

I can:

  • Schedule the sequence of activities for a project taking dependencies into account to produce a visual representation of time estimates.

Evidence to demonstrate competency

By providing:

  1. A Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) that describes at least six (6) work packages for the project you are planning for.
  2. A project schedule (Gantt chart) that clearly illustrates the scheduling of the activities including the duration and dependencies. Your chart should also identify an end date, critical path and milestones.

Task 4: Budget challenge

Resource link: Budget challenge

Performance indicators

I can:

  • Establish a budget for a project.

Evidence to demonstrate competency

By providing:

  1. A budget template suitable for your project
  2. A proposed budget for your project for including:
    • a breakdown of the individual activity costs for each work package (the decomposition),
    • a budget timeline
    • proposed expenditure over time to achieve at least four (4) key milestones.

Task 5: Quality challenge

Resource link: Quality challenge

Performance indicators

I can:

  • Produce a quality management plan for a project

Evidence to demonstrate competency

By providing:

  1. A quality plan that:
    • Describes the quality outcome for at least three (3) work packets from the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
    • Identifies who is responsible for ensuring the quality outcome and what tolerances are allowable.
    • Description of how and when quality will be assessed.

Task 6: Procurement challenge

Resource link: Procurement challenge

Performance indicators

I can:

  • Write a procurement plan for a project

Evidence to demonstrate competency

By providing:

  1. A procurement plan that:
    • Identifies a least five (5) items to be procured.
    • Ensures that the items are logically aligned with the resources required as set out in the resource requirements and budget for the project.
    • Includes relevant associated costs and quality standards in the description
    • For each item the suggested type of contract for procurement is specified and the reason for its selection is well justified.

Task 7: Risk challenge

Resource link: Risk challenge

Performance indicators

I can:

  • Create a risk register for a project

Evidence to demonstrate competency

By providing:

  1. A table which:
    • Lists a minimum of three (3) risks that could impact on your project
    • Calibrates the impact of the risk (eg low, medium, high)
    • Assesses the likelihood of occurrence
    • Provides a mitigation approach for managing / minimizing the risk
    • Estimates the cost for a contingency amount for at least two (2) risks (remember to update your project budget with the contingency amount)

Task 8: Assemble a project plan

Resource link: Assessment rubric

Performance indicators

I can:

  • Assemble a coherent project plan

Evidence to demonstrate competency

By providing:

  1. A coherent project plan which is of a standard that could be used to run a project. The project plan must include the following elements:
    • Identification section (4 Marks)
    • Resource requirements (5 Marks)
    • Work breakdown structure (WBS) (5 Marks)
    • Rubric for project schedule (Gantt Chart) (5 Marks)
    • Budget (5 Marks)
    • Quality plan (5 Marks)
    • Procurement plan (5 Marks)
    • Risk management plan (5 Marks)
