Welcome to the OERu course, Introduction to Research Methods in Psychology. This course is intended for students who have taken one or more introductory psychology courses and want to learn about the various research methods used in in the field of psychology. It can also be useful to anyone interested in the Social Sciences and can contribute to a Bachelor of General Studies. The wiki course environment differs from other online courses you may have taken or seen because it is collaborative: students and users in the wiki can modify, edit, and/or contribute to pages. Before you do that, however, you will want to work through the course.This Home Page shows the course identifiers (level, approximate number of hours needed to learn the material, number of credits, and so on); course description, key resources, and microblog feed, a space in this wiki in which you can exchange small pieces of content (this will be explained later).

Course OverviewCourse DescriptionYou are introduced to the procedures and designs used in psychological research and the critical evaluation of research. Topics include the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to research, including non-experimental, experimental, and quasi-experimental designs; research ethics; measurement; validity of methods; control of extraneous influences; and the drawing of valid conclusions from empirical evidence. This is a required course for students majoring in psychology. PrerequisiteYou are encouraged to complete one or more introductory psychology course(s) before taking this course.
