Read Chapter 18.3 in Business Communication for Success.

The key concept in this reading is that, while all communication contexts are diverse and dynamic, certain characteristics are present in almost all cultures. These include initiation rituals, traditions, values, purpose, language and boundaries, which may either help or hinder adapting to various business or social environments.

Recommended: Both Chapter exercises, which ask you to identify images that characterize some of your cultural belonging groups, and images that your communities find offensive. What values, beliefs, and/or negative judgements do you see reflected in these images?
