Bamboos are one of te important non timber forest produce with diverse uses and are intermingled with the tradition and culture of tribal population. It has been estimated that there are over 1575 species belonging to 111 genera distributed through out the world. Quite a few has great commercial value. Some of the important genera are Bambusa, Dendrocalamus, Melocanna,Ochlandra, Phyllostachys, Pseudoxytenathera, Schizostachyum, etc.
