Human Rights in North Korea Activity One (Required Activity)
Watch the video:
North Korea and Human Rights: Can Things Change? A Lecture by the Hon Michael Kirby AC, CMG (total lecture is 1:13:39, however there is a long introduction so we recommend commencing at 7:45 when Kirby takes the podium. Kirby speaks until 43:00, the remainder is optional question time).
Today's speaker is the Hon Michael Kirby, a former Justice of the High Court of Australia. In 2013-14, he chaired the UN Commission of Inquiry on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea).
As you watch, consider the following questions:
- How did North Korea's history contribute to the current situation there?
- What human rights issues did the Commission of Inquiry investigate?
